Benitses is situated thirteen klm due south from Corfu town on the east coast sandwiched between the
mountains of Agioi Deka and the Ionian sea. Orignally a small fishing village Benitses has seen some major transformations over the last twenty years. This popular tourist resort was a hive of activity in the eightys and early ninetys but now it has ruturned to a more sedate pace catering to a more mature type of tourisim. The village itself has quite an array of pubs and tavernas and has two beaches which are a mix of sand and pebbels The village is located on the main thoroughfare south from Corfu and has been moving upmarket in the last few years especially since the completion of the new marina on the spot where the old fishing harbour used to stand, but this progress has not entirely killed off the fishing trade as some fishing boats still operate from the new marina and the fishermen can still be seen selling their catches on the main road that runs between the village and the marina.
